New Boston goes green with geothermal technology - Schriever Air Force Base 05/16/2012 NEW BOSTON AIR FORCE STATION, NH -- The 23rd Space Operations Squadron expects to save more than $40,000 in energy costs this year. SOPS civil engineers refitted a warehouse on base with the latest geothermal heating ventilation and air conditioning system. The technology incorporates heat pumps, distribution subsystems and above all, the Earth's constant temperature, to create a drastically more efficient heating and cooling system than traditional HVAC systems.
Air Force refocuses pollution, waste efforts - Air Force Link 05/07/2012 JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas (AFNS) -- Air Force leaders recently refocused its pollution prevention and waste elimination efforts with a new policy aimed at gaining efficiencies. A policy memo co-signed April 27 by Air Force Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Philip Breedlove and Assistant Secretary for Installations, Environment and Logistics Terry Yonkers states "P2 and waste minimization opportunities are excellent ways to conserve resources, protect Air Force people and their environment, reduce logistical and compliance burdens, and streamline processes to become more efficient".
Columbus AFB recognized with energy award - Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base 05/07/2012 COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. -- As the Air Force moves to become more energy efficient many bases have taken the lead in conservation. Columbus Air Force Base recently won the Air Education and Training Command's Energy Incentive Award of $250,000 for having the highest decrease in energy use of all AETC bases for the past quarter compared to the past three years' consumption.

Recycle: Program generates funds, conserves natural resources, preserves ... - McGuire Air Force Base 04/23/2012 Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. -- Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is not immune to paper use, but nearly ten years ago leadership started a recycling program to decrease the amount of waste produced at what were formerly McGuire Air Force Base and Fort Dix. A recycling partnership has existed between the two bases since 2003 and focuses on more than just paper. Recycling operations are vast and include sorting items, shredding paper, bailing cardboard and compacting other waste.

Calif. - Secretary of the Air Force, Michael Donley, attended a ribbon cutting ceremony here March 27 for one of three Edwards solar plants.Each of the three plants use 4,044 panels to produce DC voltage, and via two inverters converts it to AC voltage before sending it to the distribution system.
