Operational Tools
This section provides links to resources that are especially valuable for Joint Service installation-level
EMS Operations. It focuses on information and activities to support "EMS practitioners," i.e., those who
already have an EMS in-place and operating.
In order for an EMS to be functional and useful it must involve all of the environmental aspects of the
missions, activities, and functions to an organization, and the "line" (core mission) organizations on
the installation must use the EMS in day-to-day operations. The resources in this section provide
examples of the kinds of documents and approaches that can be used by installation personnel
who are actually responsible for the daily operations that are impacted by an EMS.
- Control Procedures - Provides examples of existing
Operational Control Procedures such as Standard Operating Procedures, Point of Use Check Lists, and Media
Management Summaries that are currently being used at different Joint Service installations.
- Metrics - Provides examples of Compliance Summary
Metrics and Training Metrics that are currently being used at military facilities.
- Step-by-Step Guidance Manual - Provides a manual that
offers guidance on how to implement an EMS at the operational level of an installation, using a
Motor Pool as a generic example. Users can customize this generic example to the meet the needs of their
specific organization. Samples of the worksheets used in the manual are provided.
