Management Review
An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a process, not an event. The EMS Management Review is
part of that process. It is the "act"
phase of plan-do-check-act model, and as such is the end of one continuous improvement cycle and the
beginning of the next.
The EMS Management Review is a specific EMS element and requirement. Its goal is to provide a means to
systematically identify and proactively manage issues that
can impact an organization's environmental performance, especially in relationship to mission
requirements and accomplishments.
The EMS Management Review is designed to ensure ongoing
and practical involvement by the top management of an organization. The Management Review offers
this leadership the opportunity to determine:
- Is the current EMS suitable, adequate and effective for its intended purposes?
- What decisions or actions relative to the EMS need to be made to ensure continual improvement ?
